Director's Profile	Wanma Caidan was born in Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai province in 1969. He graduated from the Department of Tibetan Language and Literature, Northwest University, and Beijing Film Academy. He has been publishing serial literary works since 1991 in newspapers and magazines. More than forty of his short and medium-length novels, both Tibetan and Chinese, have been published. His First feature film, [The Silent Holy Stone](2005), won the New Currents Award at the 10th Pusan International Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Award at the 30th Hong Kong International Film

Synopsis: [Balloon] is a story that portrays the conflict between Tibetan Buddhist belief and the reality of a modern society. Darji′s wife Drolga is pregnant because their twin sons turned their only two condoms into balloons. Darji and Drolga have three children already. The eldest son goes to a boarding high school in town. Becuase of Drolga′s unexpected pregnancy, everyone is at his wits′ end. What is worse is that Darji′s father passes away at this difficult moment. An elderly lama predicts that the fetus in Drolga is the rebirth of Darji′s father. Doctors from the local government hospital require Drolga to have the fetus aborted so as to avoid a stiff fine.
