Director Rommel TOLENTINO
Country Philippines
Director's Profile Rommel Tolentino aka “Milo” is a visual artist who excels in fine-art, commercial photography, graphic design, and filmmaking. He made his first short film in 2005 and hasn’t stopped since. He writes, directs, edits, photographs and designs most of his films. His narrative works on and about children has earned him, among others, a United Nations’ MDG recognition award, a Sonje Award at the Pusan International Competition, and awards at the Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Competition.
Toto or Nono, as he is commonly referred to by the people in the slums, is a very outspoken and opinionated eight-year-old boy with a harelip and a distinct speech malformation. He juggles his days criticizing his Japayuki mother’s transient love life, eluding the neighborhood bully and helping a stray boy find his way home. Recently the boy figures it will be totally cool to participate with his school’s very high profile Declamation Competition. You think it’s a handful for a frail little boy? Not for Nono – a boy who has set his mind to always shine in everything he does, no matter what.
