Director's Profile SHIN A-ga: Born in 1974 in Jeonju, she graduated from Ewha Woman’s University with a degree in sculpture and also attended Korean Academy of Film Arts. She was assistant director on [See You After School], [Two Faces of My Girlfriend] and [Shin Sung Il is Missing] and directed several shorts films including [Wing], [Bad Son] and [Part-Time Job]. [Jesus Hospital] is her first feature film.
LEE Sangcheol: Born in 1975 in Seoul, he graduated from Korean Academy of Film Arts. He assisted director Lee Myung-Se on [Duelist] and [M]. His first feature film, [Metamorphosis] (2009), was screened at various film festivals including Jeonju International Film Festival and Vancouver International Film Festival.
Synopsis
Hyun-sun, a tough milk-deliverer, has a dark secret that she continues to hide ? that her unconscious mother who is hospitalized and her daughter in 20s only know. Hyun-sun’s older sister and younger brother announce that they want to turn off their mother’s life support system, while Hyun-sun vehemently disagrees. The rest of the family believes that she is in the grip of a cult and ignores her protestations. The moment that they are about to turn off the life-support machine, Su-jin, Hyun-sun’s daughter, changes her mind and stands up for her mother.
Director's Note
This film is about a woman who struggles between her religious faith and reality.
It also speaks to the bond between mother and daughter, a mother and grandmother’s right to life or death, the conflict of family, reconciliation and maturity.
