| Director's Profile | Boram Kim has majored in literature in Chung-Ang University and was greatly influenced by English literature. She worked in story development for film production for 2 years and wrote a feature length documentary Upo, People in Wetland (2014) which was selected for Shanghai International TV Festival and Green Film Festival in Seoul. She is now directing For Vagina’s Sake which deals with menstrual products from various perspectives. |
- Synopsis
- From the very beginning of human history, women bled five days a month regardless of their will. Women have suffered from the duty to deal with this blood, yet been silent about it for so long. Societies stigmatize bleeding as a taboo, and menstrual products have been left to the hand of market. Girls from poor backgrounds, not only in India but also in New York, can’t go to school on their periods because they can’t afford the sanitary pads. And Korean girls from vulnerable populations put tissues into their vaginas to stop the bleeding. For Vagina’s Sake uses menstrual products to shed light on how a society defines women and their rights from cultural, economic, and technological perspectives, with the aim of making changes for women to bleed in healthier, safer, and happier way
