Director's Profile An alumnus of the first Asian Film Academy (AFA), Chris Chong Chan Fui is a Borneo Malaysian-born filmmaker and media artist focusing on unconventional stories and experimentation between cinema and new media arts. His recent experimental work [Block B] (2008) won the top short film prizes at the Toronto and Mar Del Plata film festivals in 2008, and it also received invitations to the Rotterdam and Berlin film festivals in 2009. His debut feature, [KARAOKE] (2009), was invited to premiere at the 2009 Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. [The Tour] will be his second feature film shot in his hometown of Kota Kinabalu, Borneo Malaysia. It was selected for the 2009 Cinemart and at the 2009 Cannes’ Cinemas du Monde Pavilion. Chris is also currently working on [Compound], an audio-visual installation in collaboration with Japanese sound artist Yasuhiro Morinaga, to be launched in 2010.
Synopsis
Set in Borneo Malaysia, [The Tour] begins in the mountains, whirls within the city, and crashes into the sea. A film set within three environments that weave the story of a love affair between two tour guides which violently tears them apart, thus leaving only the observant landscape to bear witness.
