Synopsis
′Pilseung Yeonyoungsuk′ is a documentary specifically about Yeon Youngsuk. The history of independent documentary that began from the 1980s faced many difficulties. Over such a period, it′s not easy to find a documentary that is specifically about one person. Although some people were portrayed while dealing with a certain theme, there weren′t many documentaries in which the person itself served as the courageous person of wisdom for the subject matter that was being dealt with. Wasn′t it because of the devotion to one′s duty to speak out and be collectively responsible in the midst of many social issues? However, as much as the world is becoming diverse, it is time for the documentarist to show perfunctory result of the introspection and insight. Therefore, ′Pilseung Yeonyoungsuk′ will portray Yeon Youngsuk within the given time of his music in the style of direct cinema. As if watching from right beside him, on the stage, on the street and in his room, the camera will quietly try to discover the conditions of his creative activity. Although it is with the help of his music, through his life the introspection will be made about the creator and labor activist who crosses the dreary neoliberalism.
Director's Note
′Pilseung Yeonyoungsuk′ is a Rock documentary. This film starts with the music of Yeon Youngsuk and it will end with Yeon Youngsuk′s music. At times it will be modern and psychedelic while at other times his ever depressing music will be an important instrument that guides the whole film. Not dressed up or elaborated but totally made up of his own words, his lyrics themselves will have the power to inspire. Therefore, interviews will be restrained as much as possible. The story will be made and expressed with the music made by Yeon Youngsuk from being sorrowfully ′sincere′ to decisively ′louder.′
